Unit hangs after loading new firmware
This procedure is only for use
- if you didn't forget to detach all USB devices connected to the Atola unit
and
- if the unit starts in a loop after a software/firmware update
or
- if the unit worked fine for quite some time and has sudden starting problems
Never the less - please double check first and retry standard booting a few times.

Possible errors and solutions:
- Empty CMOS battery: Hangs after 1st boot/start and led on the rear remains flashing for ever.
Starting the system with a connected Monitor, you would see wrong date and time.
You can bypass this every time when you start a 2nd time - but it will reappear...
To fix it definitely you need to replace the CMOS battery - for this do contact us.
- Defekt firmware: Proceed with the procedures Phase 1 + Phase 2
- Defekt internal USB stick: If the reflashing of the firmware did not help this is most probably the case.
If you are or have a skilled technician on hand the Atola system needs to be
deassembled to replace the internal USB 3.0 flash stick and then continue:
Phase 1. Prepare a USB recovery stick
1. Download this USB recovery image (1.7GB):
http://dl.atola.com/rocketscience/Recovery DSF-21.10.2014.img.zip
2. Zip file size after download must be 1,862,342,154 bytes.
MD5 hash: DC20772620289DEA793905C2D77266A0
3. Unpack the USB recovery image file from the downloaded zip file.
It will take 15GB of space.
4. Download and unpack this file:
http://dl.atola.com/rocketscience/USBFlasher.zip
5. Insert the USB 2.0 flash stick into an available USB port.
6. Launch USBFlasher.exe and make sure it has recognized your flash stick:
The program will rewrite ALL devices that are on the list. Please make sure you
don’t have another USB flash stick with important data attached to the system.
7. Now, click Browse… and select the previously unpacked USB recovery image.
Then click Flash All.
Phase 2. Recover the Atola DiskSense unit firmware
1. Power off the Atola DiskSense unit
2. Remove ALL devices plugged into the DiskSense unit.
3. Connect a HDMI monitor to the HDMI port on the DiskSense unit
4. Connect a USB keyboard to one of the USB target ports.
5. Power on the Atola DiskSense unit
6. Press F10 during the BIOS check to access the Boot Menu and check for the internal USB stick and remember its name
7. Restart (power off and on) the Atola DiskSense unit
7. Insert the USB recovery stick (see phase 1) into the USB source port.
8. Press F10 during the BIOS check to access the Boot Menu, select the USB recovery stick which is different to point 6.
9. USB boot stick recovery will automatically start. - Please wait until it finishes.
10. When the system boots the Atola firmware (test after reflashing) connect everything for work and restart it.
The reflashing is made with an old firmware - so the system will ask you to allow to flash the actual one for you - thats ok.
